NEWTON

Newton, the Baker County seat, incorporated January 20, 1872. It remembers Sergeant John Newton of South Carolina, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Located on the Flint River and in the Quail Plantation region, Newton is one of the few areas in Georgia not touched by a federal highway.
